DIRECTIONS

BLAENAU BACH, THE HOME OF TRANS WALES TRAILS RIDING HOLIDAYS, IS HIDDEN IN AN UNSPOILT VALLEY DEEP IN THE BEAUTIFUL BLACK MOUNTAINS OF MID WALES. WE ARE SITUATED 17 MILES FROM ABERGAVENNY, AND 7 MILES FROM BRECON AND HAY-ON-WYE, 1.5 HOURS FROM THE SEVERN BRIDGE, 3.5 HOURS DRIVE OR TRAIN RIDE FROM LONDON, AND 2 HOURS FROM BIRMINGHAM. IF YOU NEED ANY HELP ARRANGING YOUR JOURNEY HERE, JUST LET US KNOW AND WE CAN ADVISE.

BY RAIL

The nearest station is Abergavenny. From London Paddington, via Newport, the journey can be as short as 2 hrs 20 minutes. See www.nationalrail.co.uk for timetables and fares. We are a short taxi ride away from the station (about 35 minutes, £30-35) – there are usually plenty of taxis outside and ask for Transwales Trails at Blaenau Bach – most of them know us, but if not, ask them to take you to the Dragon’s Back pub in Pengenfford and then call us on 01874 711500 or 07855 967399 for directions from there (we are only a mile from there).

BY BUS

National Express coaches offer a comfortable and speedy journey up the motorway from Heathrow Airport (and other airports) to Chepstow, where we can arrange a transfer to the farm. The coach trip takes 2 hours, and the drive from Chepstow is a further one hour. The coach ticket currently costs £39.70 return, and the transfer is £70 – we can hook you up to meet others to share the cost. Full details and a journey planner can be found at www.nationalexpress.com.

BY CAR

Finding us can be tricky, so please read these instructions carefully! Our postcode doesn’t work with Sat Navs or your phone, and you will not get 3G reception anywhere near, so the best thing to do is to look us up before you come. THE EASIEST WAY TO FIND US IS TO TYPE ‘B&B at the Blaenau’ into Google Maps and ask it for directions from your starting point.

Alternatively please follow the directions below:

From Abergavenny/ Crickhowell/ the South: come up A40 from Abergavenny, one mile after Crickhowell turn right at the Cider Mill (pink pub) onto the A479 signposted to Builth Wells. Follow the road up through the villages of Tretower and Cwmdu, and the hamlets of Waun Fach and Pengenfford. Approx 7 miles up the A479, towards the top of the pass, you’ll see a big white pub on your right – the Dragon’s Back. Just after the pub, you reach the top of the pass, and the road starts to head ever so slightly downhill. Look out for a left hand bend warning sign on your left, and turn right opposite the sign, off the main road and onto a little lane that heads downhill. The turning is only 700 yards after the pub so don’t go too far! Now stop and set your mileometer to zero. Drive down the lane, just keep going straight. At 0.7 miles the road goes around to the right, signed ‘The Gliding Club’ but DO NOT TAKE THIS TURN – instead go straight on. We are the third farm drive on the left after this point, at 1.4 miles. There are 2 blue bins in front of a gate at the entrance to the drive. There is also a sign saying ‘Blaenau Bach’.

From Talgarth: start at the village centre, with your back to the Co-op. Turn right over the bridge, then turn left by the Bridge Inn End. This is Bell Street. Drive up Bell Street – the road branches either side of a cafe called the Strand, but stay left here. Go over another bridge. Then almost straight away turn right – this is Penbont Road. Drive up this lane for approx 1 mile – we are the second farm drive on the right.

Remember, if you get lost – just call us! 01874 711500/ 07855 967399
